SE Portland Represent – Tasting Tomorrow!

Last minute impromptu get-together in a cavernous room that will someday house a winery. Jesse Skiles – Fausse Piste, Prop. – is opening up his new space in Industrial SE tomorrow and asked me to bring some wine. We’ll be popping some corks, eating some cheese and talking smack. Also in attendance will be the-man-named-after-a-river, Ewald Moseler, pouring the wines he likes from Teutonic Wine Co. This will be a fun time and there will be some good wines open – many made in such small quantities that this may be your only chance to put them in your mouth.

Happy Valley Tasting Tomorrow

I will be pouring the whole lineup at the Happy Valley New Seasons store tomorrow from 4-7pm. We always have a fun time ’cause they know how to party in the happy valley – and that’s probably part of the reason that the valley is happy in the first place, right?

Monster Gossip

We’ve just been told by a reliable source that a certain Hollywood/New York actress was seen enjoying more than one glass of Behemoth with her foie gras profiteroles at a certain chic Eastside boite. Is she in Portland for the roller derby or just to ride in cars with boys? Maybe she’s scouting wines for her next party . . . .

The humble demon rated a nice mention by Katherine Cole in the Oregonian Spring Wine Guide. “It’s a no-brainer for pairing with burgers, steaks and charred portobellos,” writes Ms. Cole. Making you hungry? Read the whole piece here

Your Assignment Is . . .

The Behemoth wine label is designed by Angela Reat of Imprint. The illustration is based on an 1863 drawing by L. Breton that first appeared along with a series of other demon drawings in Colin de Plancy’s famous Dictionnaire Infernal.

Angela presented the idea of the Behemoth wine label to the Pacific Northwest College of Art Advanced Illustration Studio taught by Kristin Rogers Brown. They used it as an assignment. The results were very exciting and outside of the norm for wine labels. I have posted a few below.

Here are some of the artist’s links:

I sent off the first boxes of Behemoth this morning to expectant wine lovers in Northern California, Southern California, Georgia and New York. I can already hear corks a’poppin’ across the country. You can get yours delivered to your doorstep as well. Go to the ‘buy wine’ page for more details, or just drop me a line and let me know what you need.  Cheers!

Bruce Bauer, owner of Vino wine shop, blogger, gourmand and bon vivant, is now writing for Portland Food and Wine. His first piece about slurpable summer reds includes some very nice words about Behemoth. You can check out the article here and then stop by his shop on SE 28th and pick up some of his recommendations.
